EVO Implantable
Collamer Lens (ICL)
What Is the EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)?
The EVO ICL is an implantable contact lens that is surgically placed behind your iris, the colorful part of your eye, and in front of the natural crystalline lens in order to improve nearsightedness. EVO ICL surgery is a great refractive surgery option for patients who may have thin corneas.
What Is the Difference Between LASIK and EVO ICL?
LASIK and EVO ICL are both procedures that can treat nearsightedness and yield very similar results, however there are some notable differences. LASIK is a procedure where corneal tissue is remolded with a laser to correct for your vision, while the EVO ICL is an implantable lens that achieves the same visual result. The EVO ICL can also be removed or reversed if necessary, and the procedure is an excellent option for patients with thin corneas.
Is EVO ICL Right for Me?
At Brooks Eye Associates, we’ll perform a comprehensive examination to determine if EVO ICL surgery is the right option for you. It works best for patients who are at least 21 years of age, are nearsighted, and have had a stable prescription for at least a year.
What Happens During EVO ICL surgery?
EVO ICL surgery is a quick and painless procedure that generally takes 20 to 30 minutes or less. On the day of your procedure, we will numb the eye to ensure there is no pain. A small corneal incision is created to allow insertion of the lens. Once the lens is inserted, Dr. Brooks will make any necessary adjustments for proper positioning.
What Does Recovery from EVO ICL Surgery Look Like?
Most patients will notice vision improvement in the days following the procedure. We will prescribe eye drops intended to prevent infection and improve healing. Your vision will continue to improve over the next 48 hours as they adjust and heal.
